Common uses
This medication is typically used for psoriasis or for a disorder of the skin's pigment known as vitiligo. It may also be used for eczema. It requires a few months to take effect.
How to use this medication
This product is part of a treatment that includes exposure to artificial light. The lotion must be applied at a specific time preceding the exposition to the light. Every step of the treatment should be executed by a health professionnal.
Avoid exposure to the sun for prolonged periods during the 24 hours before treatment. After treatment, avoid sun exposure for at least eight hours, even through a window or in the presence of clouds. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight for at least 48 hours after treatment. If this is not possible, wear protective clothing and use sunscreen.
Wear wrap-around sunglasses to protect your eyes during daylight hours for 24 hours after treatment.
This medication is typically used only once a week. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Some food may increase skin sensitivity to sun during treatment. Avoid limes, figs, parsley, parsnips, mustard, carrots, and celery.
Possible side effects
In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:
- it may cause local irritation.

Blood donation is usually refused during this treatment.
